Add traffic tops up your current plan when you run out mid-cycle. You keep the same subscription and the same per-GB rate.
Add traffic requires an active subscription. If your plan is frozen, if it has expired, or if you are on Pay-as-you-go, the option is not available to you. The alternatives are listed below.

A top-up does not extend your subscription

This is the part that catches people out. Buying extra traffic adds GB to your balance. A top-up does not push back your renewal date and it does not keep your plan alive. So if your subscription expires a week after you top up, the traffic you just bought freezes along with the rest of your balance. Nothing is lost, and the traffic comes back when you have an active subscription again, but you cannot use it in the meantime.

What you pay for a top-up

Your top-up costs the same per GB as your current plan. Larger plans have a lower per-GB rate, so a top-up on a larger plan is cheaper per GB than one on a smaller plan. If you are topping up often, an upgrade usually costs less than repeated top-ups.

When Add traffic is not available

Topping up only works on a live subscription. In these two cases, Add traffic is not the route:
