NodeMaven residential IPs come from real home internet users. Every home internet user is assigned an IP address by their ISP, and some of those users choose to offer their IP address to a proxy network in exchange for various benefits. That opt-in arrangement is what forms a residential proxy network. When you connect through it, your traffic exits from one of those residential IP addresses, so you appear as a genuine user in that location. Because the IPs belong to real home connections, quality varies, which is why NodeMaven filters the pool. See How clean are your IPs?.
