# I selected a country and region but my anti-detect browser shows a different location

> Anti-detect browsers read geolocation from third-party databases that disagree with each other. Check against MaxMind to confirm where an IP actually resolves.

Anti-detect browsers use various services and databases to verify the location of an IP. **The accuracy of these services and databases differs**, so two tools can report two different locations for the same address.

This applies to Residential and Mobile proxies.

## Check against MaxMind

To get an accurate result, check your IP and geolocation after connecting to our proxies using this service:

[MaxMind GeoIP Databases](https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-databases)

This is the benchmark we use, so it is the one to compare against before concluding the targeting did not apply.

## Other things to check

* **Confirm the proxy is the one you think it is.** Run [Check proxy in the dashboard](/quickstart/test-your-proxies) and compare what it reports with what your browser reports.
* **A ZIP overrides region and city.** If your username carries a `-zip-` parameter, the region and city you picked are not in the string at all. See [ISP and ZIP targeting](/residential-mobile/isp-and-zip-targeting).
* **ISP proxies resolve to a city you did not choose.** ISP targeting is country-level only, so seeing a city is expected. See [Available Locations \[ISP\]](/isp/locations).

For how NodeMaven benchmarks geolocation and why third-party tools disagree, see [ISP proxy quality, geolocation, and IP replacement](/isp/quality-and-replacement).
