# What Session types do you offer?

> NodeMaven Residential and Mobile proxies offer three session types: Sticky, No rotating, and Rotating. Here is what each does and when to use it.

NodeMaven Residential and Mobile proxies have three session types: **Sticky**, **No rotating**, and **Rotating**. You choose one under **Advanced settings** on the Rotating Residential Proxy page.

ISP (Static Residential) proxies don't use session types. Those IPs are yours for the life of your order and never rotate.

## The three types at a glance

| | **What it does** | **If your IP goes offline** |
| - | - | - |
| **Sticky** (default) | Keeps the same IP for as long as possible, up to 24 hours | You get a new IP from the same location |
| **No rotating** | Keeps the same IP indefinitely | The session waits for your original IP to come back |
| **Rotating** | Gives you a new IP on every request | Not applicable - IPs change by design |

## Sticky

Sticky is the default and suits most work. Your session holds one IP for as long as that IP stays reachable, up to a maximum of 24 hours.

If the IP does drop, you're automatically given a new one from the same location filters you selected. Your connection keeps working without you doing anything.

Sticky has two duration settings:

* **Keep IP as long as possible (Super sticky sessions)** - the default. Holds the IP until it becomes unreachable or 24 hours pass.
* **Custom** - set your own duration in seconds, from **60 seconds up to 86,400 seconds** (1 minute to 24 hours). Your session ends after that time and you get a new IP.

Use Sticky for account management, filling in forms, shopping carts, and anything where an interruption mid-task would be a problem.

## No rotating

No rotating keeps you on one specific IP and never substitutes a different one. If that IP temporarily goes offline, the session waits for it to come back rather than moving you elsewhere.

This is the difference from Sticky, and it matters. Sticky prioritises keeping you connected. No rotating prioritises keeping you on the same IP, even if that means waiting.

To move to a different IP, generate a new proxy string with a new session ID.

Use No rotating when a change of IP would break your workflow, or when a platform associates your account with one specific address.

## Rotating

Rotating gives you a fresh IP from the pool on every request you make. There's no session to maintain.

Use Rotating for scraping, price monitoring, search-results collection, and anything that benefits from spreading requests across many addresses.

## Sticky or No rotating?

Both keep you on the same IP, so the choice comes down to what should happen when that IP becomes unavailable:

* Pick **Sticky** if being disconnected is worse than getting a different IP.
* Pick **No rotating** if getting a different IP is worse than waiting.

If you're unsure, start with Sticky. It's the default because it handles the common case well.

## How session types appear in your proxy username

Your session choice shows up in the username the dashboard generates:

```text theme={null}
Sticky        USERNAME-country-us-sid-abc123
Sticky+TTL    USERNAME-country-us-sid-abc123-ttl-8m20s
No rotating   USERNAME-country-us-sid-abc123-norotate-true
Rotating      USERNAME-country-us
```

The `-sid-` value is your session ID. Changing it starts a fresh session with a new IP, which is the quickest way to move on from an IP you no longer want.

Custom durations are converted to hours, minutes and seconds, so 500 seconds appears as `-ttl-8m20s`.

## Running several sessions at once

Set **Proxies quantity** in the Proxy generator to create multiple proxy strings at once. Each gets its own session ID, so each holds its own separate IP. Use this when you need several parallel connections that don't share an address.
