# IP filter modes

> The four IP filter modes, what each prioritises, and how they appear in your proxy username.

**IP filter mode** decides which IPs from our pool you get. You set it under **Advanced settings**.

It applies to Residential and Mobile. **Quality is the default and suits most work.**

## The four modes

| Mode | Prioritises | In your username |
| - | - | - |
| **Quality** (default) | Cleanest IPs, best success rate | `-filter-medium` |
| **Quality + Speed** | Clean IPs that are also fast | `-filter-medium-speed-fast` |
| **Speed** | Low latency | `-speed-fast` |
| **Max pool size** | Widest choice of IPs | nothing added |

Filtering gives you better IPs and fewer of them.

You do not type the parameters. The dashboard adds them when you change the dropdown.

<Note>
  **On the naming:** the dashboard says **Quality**, the username says `-filter-medium`. Same thing. `medium` is the internal name for that tier.
</Note>
