# ISP proxy quality, geolocation, and IP replacement

> How NodeMaven benchmarks ISP proxy quality and geolocation, why third-party tools disagree, and how to refresh your IPs with Swap IPs.

This article explains how we benchmark **ISP (Static Residential)** proxy quality, how to interpret results from third-party checking tools, and what to do if you want to refresh the IPs in your order.

## What we offer at delivery

Every ISP proxy is checked against two industry-standard references before it's assigned to your order:

* **[Scamalytics](https://scamalytics.com/)** - for IP fraud and quality scoring. Every IP is checked against Scamalytics before we deliver it.
* **[MAXMIND](https://www.maxmind.com/en/locate-my-ip-address)** - for IP geolocation. MAXMIND is the database we use to confirm geo accuracy at delivery.

Scamalytics and MAXMIND are widely used across the industry, which makes them credible and reliable benchmarks for us to stand behind.

## Why fraud scores can look different on other tools

You may check the same IP on IPQS, IP2Proxy, IPinfo, or another fraud-scoring service and see a different number than Scamalytics shows. **This is expected.** Each service uses its own data and scoring model, so score variance is normal - not a sign that an IP is bad.

What drives the variance:

* **Different data sources.** Each fraud-scoring service ingests its own threat-intelligence feeds.
* **Different scoring models.** A "30" on one platform doesn't translate to a "30" on another. Some use 0-100, others use different ranges or categories.
* **Different refresh windows.** One database may have updated an IP this week; another may be running on data from months ago.

A good Scamalytics score usually means the IP will perform well across most use cases, even if another checker shows something less favorable. We benchmark on Scamalytics; we don't chase scores on tools we don't use as our standard.

## Why geolocation tools sometimes disagree

The same variance applies to geolocation. If you check your IP on a different geo-location tool and see a different city, region, or even country than expected, that doesn't mean the IP is mis-located - it usually means the other tool's database disagrees with MAXMIND. IP-to-location data is built and updated independently by each provider, and different tools can show meaningfully different results for the same IP.

MAXMIND is the database we benchmark against. If MAXMIND shows the correct country for your IP, the proxy is delivering what was ordered, even if a different tool reports something else.

## A note on platform compatibility

Whether a specific website or platform accepts a given IP depends on factors beyond the proxy itself: the platform's own anti-bot configuration, your browser fingerprint, the account's age and history, the traffic pattern, time of day, and many others.

We can confirm that an IP meets our delivery standards - checked against Scamalytics, and accurate per MAXMIND. What we can't do is guarantee how a third-party platform will respond to it.

## If you'd like a different set of IPs - use Swap IPs

Every ISP order includes a self-serve **Swap IPs** button in the dashboard. This is your built-in option to refresh the IPs in your order at no extra cost.

How it works:

* Go to **Dashboard → ISP proxies → My proxies → Details** on the order you want to refresh.
* Click **Swap IPs**. Every IP in that order is replaced with a new one from the same country, on the same assigned port. Your configuration keeps working unchanged.
* You have **one free swap per order, per renewal cycle.** The dashboard shows a "Swaps left" counter so you always know what's available.
* All replacement IPs pass the same Scamalytics check at delivery.

<Check>
Swap IPs is the standard way to refresh your ISP IPs. Because the IPs are pre-checked against Scamalytics on every swap, the new set will already meet our delivery standard - so the swap is most useful when you want a different pool, not when you're trying to optimize for a third-party scoring tool we don't use as our benchmark.
