# Proxy Helper (Chrome extension)

> Set up a NodeMaven proxy in Google Chrome with the Proxy Helper extension.

This guide shows how to set up a NodeMaven proxy in Google Chrome using the Proxy Helper extension.

## Set up Proxy Helper

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install Proxy Helper">
    Download [Proxy Helper](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/proxy-helper/mnloefcpaepkpmhaoipjkpikbnkmbnic) from the Chrome Web Store, then click **Add to Chrome** and install the extension.

  <Step title="Add the host and port">
    After installing Proxy Helper, set up your proxy's location and paste the **Host** and **Port** from your [Proxy Setup](https://dashboard.nodemaven.com/proxy/default) page into the proxy's configuration.

    <Note>
      SOCKS5 is not available in this extension. Select the **HTTP** protocol.

  <Step title="Add your credentials">
    Click the authentication tab and add your **Username** and **Password** from your [Proxy Setup](https://dashboard.nodemaven.com/proxy/default) page. You can skip this step if your IP is whitelisted - see [IP whitelist](/residential-mobile/ip-whitelist).

  <Step title="Save changes">
    Click **Save changes**. Your proxy has now been added to the extension.

  <Step title="Test the proxy">
    To test your proxy, open [maxmind.com](https://maxmind.com/) in a new tab. If MaxMind still shows your real location, click the Proxy Helper button and select the proxy.

  <Step title="Confirm the proxy works">
