# Why is my OS displayed as Android on Browserleaks?

> TCP/IP fingerprinting infers the operating system from network behaviour, so an Android result on a PC is normal.

This is normal in many proxy and VPN setups. Seeing Android does not mean your PC is being detected as an Android device.

A TCP/IP fingerprint does not read your operating system. It guesses, based on the shape of the network traffic:

* Packet size, or MTU
* TCP behaviour, such as window size and flags
* TTL, the time-to-live value

Because the traffic reaches the checker through our gateway, those values reflect the network path rather than your machine, and the tool's guess can land on a different operating system. The result is an inference, not an exact detection.

Browser-level identity is set by your browser or anti-detect profile, not by the proxy. See [Can I specify the fingerprint on your proxies?](/faqs/fingerprint).
