# Can I choose between IPv4 or IPv6?

> The dashboard offers Mixed IPV4 and IPV6 or IPV4 only. There is no IPv6-only option.

Partly. The **IP version** dropdown on Residential and Mobile proxies gives you two choices:

* **Mixed IPV4 and IPV6** is the default. Each proxy may be IPv4 or IPv6, depending on what is available.
* **IPV4 only** restricts every proxy you generate to IPv4.

There is no IPv6-only option, so you can rule IPv6 out but you cannot ask for it exclusively. Pick **IPV4 only** if your target site or tool does not handle IPv6.

The setting sits in the **IP version** dropdown in the Configuration row on the **Rotating Residential Proxy** page, and the generated string updates as soon as you change it. See [Understanding your proxy string](/residential-mobile/proxy-string).
