# What kind of authentication method do you use?

> NodeMaven proxies authenticate with a username and password generated in your dashboard, or with IP whitelisting.

NodeMaven proxies use username and password authentication. After you buy a plan, a proxy username and password are generated automatically in your dashboard under **Rotating Residential Proxy**.

If your tool cannot send credentials, you can authenticate by IP address instead. See [IP whitelist](/residential-mobile/ip-whitelist).
