# How do monthly subscriptions work?

> A monthly subscription gives you set traffic each month, and unused traffic carries over when you renew.

A monthly subscription gives you a set amount of traffic each month, billed on the same date every cycle.

**Every plan includes both Residential and Mobile proxies.** One traffic balance, spendable on either, in any proportion. There is no separate Mobile plan and no separate Mobile balance.

You also get **access to our entire IP pool**. Plans differ by traffic, not by how many IPs you can reach.

## Buying a subscription

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Pricing">
    Click **Pricing** in the left navigation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a plan">
    Choose the plan you want.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select a payment method">
    Select a payment method and continue.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pay">
    Complete the payment.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Traffic is added as soon as the payment is confirmed.

## Only card subscriptions renew automatically

**Paid by card:** your subscription renews on its own. On your renewal date we charge the card on file and add that month's traffic. You do not need to do anything.

**Paid any other way** (cryptocurrency, YooMoney or MIR) your subscription is a one-off. It ends when the cycle ends, and you buy the next one whenever you are ready. Nothing is charged again without you doing it.

If you did not pay by card and want to keep running without a gap, buy your next plan before the current cycle ends. **Your remaining traffic carries over.**

Your **Dashboard** shows:

| Field | What it tells you |
| - | - |
| Subscription Plan | The plan you are paying for |
| Next Payment | Your renewal date, if you pay by card |
| Available Traffic | What is left to use right now |

To stop an automatic card charge, cancel before your renewal date, as described in [how to cancel your subscription](/billing/cancel).

## Unused traffic at the end of the month

**Unused traffic carries over when your subscription renews.** If your plan is 20 GB and you finish the month with 6 GB left, your next cycle starts with 26 GB.

What happens to unused traffic depends on what you do next:

| What you do | Your remaining traffic |
| - | - |
| Renew, upgrade, or downgrade | **Carries over** to the new cycle |
| Let the subscription lapse, or cancel | **Freezes.** Held until you start a subscription again, then added back |
| Cancel, then switch to Pay-as-you-go | **Forfeited.** Subscription traffic does not move to Pay-as-you-go |

<Note>
  Frozen traffic is not lost. See [how to unfreeze your traffic](/billing/unfreeze-traffic) to get it back.
</Note>

## Running out mid-month

If you use up your traffic before the cycle ends, you have two options:

* **Top up** with **Add traffic** to add GB to the current cycle. See [how to add more traffic to your account](/billing/add-traffic).
* **Upgrade** to a larger plan, which also lowers your per-GB rate. See [how to upgrade your subscription](/billing/upgrade).

If you are topping up most months, upgrading is usually cheaper.

## Subscription or Pay-as-you-go?

| | Monthly subscription | Pay-as-you-go |
| - | - | - |
| **Billing** | Recurring if you pay by card, otherwise one payment at a time | One payment at a time, no automatic charges |
| **Price per GB** | Lower | Higher |
| **Traffic expiry** | Rolls over while you keep renewing | No expiry |
| **Best for** | Steady, predictable usage | Occasional or unpredictable usage |

For the details of the other option, see [how Pay-as-you-go works](/billing/pay-as-you-go).
